Assembly Guide
Canva Assembly Guide
A beginner-friendly, step-by-step guide to assembling your AI-generated invitation suite in Canva.
Note: Canva interface may change over time. This guide reflects general Canva functionality. Files are not automatically saved to the cloud — download your finished designs to your device.
Before You Start — Get the Best Quality in Canva
Isla Bella prompts are engineered for the highest resolution your AI tool can produce. Follow these steps to make sure your assets stay crisp and sharp when you bring them into Canva.
- 1Generate at maximum quality — In your AI tool (Midjourney, Firefly, DALL·E, etc.), always use the highest quality setting before generating. In Midjourney, add --quality 2 or use the Upscale button on every image before downloading.
- 2Download the full-resolution file — Never screenshot or save the preview thumbnail. Download the actual full-size file from your AI tool. In Midjourney, click the image to open it full size, then right-click → Save Image. In Firefly, use the Download button — not the preview.
- 3Upload the full-res file to Canva — In Canva, go to Uploads → Upload files and select the full-resolution file you downloaded. Do not drag from a browser tab or copy-paste — always upload the saved file directly.
- 4Do not compress or resize before uploading — Upload the file exactly as downloaded. Do not run it through a compressor, resize it in Preview or Photos, or convert it to a lower-quality format before bringing it into Canva.
- 5Export from Canva at print resolution — When downloading your finished design, choose PDF Print (best for physical printing) or PNG at the highest available quality. Avoid JPG for invitations — it introduces compression artifacts on fine details.
If an asset looks blurry or soft after uploading to Canva, the issue is almost always the download step — go back to your AI tool, upscale the image, and re-download the full-resolution file.
Create Your Canva Project
Open Canva and click "Create a design." Select "Custom size" and enter your invitation dimensions (e.g., 5x7 inches = 1500x2100px at 300dpi for print, or 1080x1920px for digital).
Use "Print" dimensions for physical invitations and "Social media" dimensions for digital sharing.
Upload Your AI-Generated Assets
Click "Uploads" in the left panel, then "Upload files." Select all your AI-generated images from your computer. Canva will process and store them in your uploads library.
Upload all assets at once to save time. They will be available in your Uploads panel for this and future projects.
Add Your Background
Drag your background image from Uploads onto the canvas. It will automatically fill the design area. Use the transparency slider (in the top toolbar) to adjust opacity if needed — 70-90% is often ideal for text legibility.
Right-click the background image and select "Set image as background" to lock it in place.
Place Your Invitation Design
Drag your main invitation image or decorative elements from Uploads onto the canvas. Use Canva alignment tools (top toolbar) to center elements. Layer decorative elements using the Position panel.
Use Canva Layers panel (Elements > Layers) to manage the stacking order of your design elements.
Add Your Text and Event Details
Click "Text" in the left panel to add text boxes. Type your event details: headline, honoree name, date, time, venue, and RSVP information. Choose fonts that match your suite typography direction.
Use no more than 2-3 font styles for a polished look. Your headline font should be larger and more decorative; body text should be clean and readable.
Add Decorative Elements
Drag your clipart, floral elements, frames, and borders from Uploads onto the canvas. Position them to frame your text and enhance the design. Use Canva resize handles to scale elements proportionally.
Hold Shift while resizing to maintain proportions. Use the transparency slider to create layered depth effects.
Add Interactive Links (Digital Invitations)
For digital invitations, select a button or text element, then click the link icon in the top toolbar. Add your RSVP link, Google Maps URL, registry link, or calendar link. These become clickable when shared digitally.
Canva link feature works on shared Canva links and downloaded PDFs. PNG downloads do not support clickable links.
Preview Your Design
Click the "Present" button (top right) to preview your invitation in full screen. Check that all text is readable, elements are properly aligned, and the overall design feels cohesive and beautiful.
View on both desktop and mobile to ensure the design looks great on all screens.
Download and Share
Click "Share" then "Download." For print: choose PDF Print (CMYK, 300dpi). For digital sharing: choose PNG or JPG. For interactive digital invitations: choose "Share a link" to share the Canva design directly.
For the best print quality, always download as PDF Print. For digital sharing, PNG gives the best quality at a reasonable file size.
